The 68 acre garden is owned by the Royal Horticultural Society. It is situated in a wooded valley, with a stream running through the centre of the garden, and great paths connecting the different areas for you to explore.

Harlow Carr is great to visit at any time of year. It is an ideal place to have a stroll and get some exercise on a crisp winter’s day. Spring and autumn colours are always uplifting, and in summer the profusion of flowers is definitely something to see.

Among the different areas to explore there is woodland, a pond, the Winter Walk, the Streamside Garden, a glass Alpine House, and even a hedgehog-friendly garden!

The Kitchen Garden is an absolute must for anyone interested in growing fruits and vegetables. Wandering around the raised beds and plots is a great way to get ideas for your own garden.



In addition to the garden there are also plant sales, an adventure playground for children, an excellent and extensive RHS gift shop, and of course Betty’s tea rooms for superb refreshments or a full meal.

If you live close enough to visit Harlow Carr or one of the other RHS gardens regularly, membership makes a lot of sense.
If you are a member, you and a guest can visit the gardens free of charge as often as you wish, so you can quickly recover the membership fee. The member only can also gain free access to a very large number of partner gardens around the country (many of these are restricted to certain months of the year).
